Vehicle strikes woman in wheelchair
A vehicle struck an elderly female Edmonds resident in a motorized wheelchair this afternoon at about 1:20 p.m. at the intersection of 76th Avenue West and SR 99 in Edmonds.
The 79-year-old pedestrian was traveling south in her wheelchair on the east side of SR 99 and crossing at 76th Avenue West when a vehicle driven by a 20-year-old Lynnwood resident heading northwest on 76th struck the woman as she crossed the intersection.
According to Sgt. Mark Marsh of the Edmonds Police Department, the driver stopped immediately and waited with the pedestrian until aid and medic units arrived.
Upon arrival, Edmonds police blocked 76th along with part of SR 99 to enable a medic crew to attend to the pedestrian and allow the Edmonds Police Traffic Unit to investigate the accident.
The pedestrian was transported to Harborview Medical Center for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Marsh said the roadway would be open soon. The investigation is continuing.
