Teachers needed for Sister City trip to Japan
The Edmonds Sister City Commission is accepting applications from teachers interested in co-leading the annual student visit to Hekinan, Japan, during the last two weeks of July 2017.
The program was started in 1988 and has organized visits for over 500 middle- and high-school students to and from Hekinan. Chaperones stay with a host family in Hekinan, and the commission pays travel costs.
The 2016 delegation chaperones, Edmonds School District teachers Anita Kotik and Robert Allen, recently escorted eight Edmonds School District students on the trip.
They said what a “fabulous opportunity this was to travel to Japan and experience the Japanese culture,” and also talk about “building lasting relationships with many of the people in Hekinan.”
Those interested can get an application packet with information about Hekinan, background on the program and a sample itinerary by visiting the Sister City webpage at www.escc.edmondswa.gov and going to Exchange Programs; contacting Carolyn LaFave at 425-771-0247 or firstname.lastname@example.org; or going to Edmonds City Hall, 121 Fifth Ave. N.
Deadline for applications is Friday, Jan. 13.
