State cheerleading and 'Salute to Spirit' to change venueAll performances will be broadcasted live on the WIAA Network courtesy of the WIAA and PlayON! Sports
Due to a scheduling conflict, the WIAA/Dairy Farmers of Washington/Les Schwab Tires State Cheerleading and Salute to Spirit presented by Farmers Insurance competitions have moved to Alaska Airlines Arena at "Hec" Edmundson Pavilion on the campus of the University of Washington for the 2013 winter season.
"This is very exciting for the student-athletes that will be participating in State Cheerleading and Salute to Spirit," WIAA Executive Director Mike Colbrese said. "The Association is committed to providing a first-class experience for the student-athletes, fans and coaches for these events and by moving to Alaska Airlines Arena, I believe we have executed this commitment."
The events, which kickoff the winter state championships on Saturday, January 26, get a brand new look in the 10,000 capacity arena. Built in 1927 and renovated in 1999-2000, Alaska Airlines Arena gives fans an intimate setting to view the premier state cheerleaders in the state.
Salute to Spirit, in its eighth year as a qualifying event for State Dance/Drill, features approximately 15 routines.
State Cheerleading Championships follow later that day with approximately 40 squads competing.
All performances will be broadcasted live on the WIAA Network courtesy of the WIAA and PlayON! Sports.
The State Cheerleading routines will be archived and available for on-demand viewing on the Network following the completion of the state championships.
Tickets for the events are $9 for adults and $7 for students with a valid ASB card and senior citizens. Tickets will be available on-site and include entry to both Salute to Spirit and the State Cheerleading Championships.
