Snohomish County Council seeks judicial applicants

Dec 26, 2012

The Snohomish County Council is seeking applications from people who are interested and qualified to fill an unexpired term on the South District Court bench that will expire on Dec. 31, 2014.

The vacancy results from the departure of Judge Timothy Ryan who will retire effective Dec. 31.

Requirements for the position are established in state law and include being a lawyer admitted to practice law in the state of Washington, and a registered voter of the South District Court district.

The council plans to appoint a new judge in time for that individual to attend training for judges known as judicial college which begins on Jan. 27. The deadline for applications is Jan. 8, and interviews with the top candidates will be held on Jan. 18.

The council anticipates taking action at its General Legislative Session on Wednesday, Jan. 23, to appoint the new judge.
