Re: proposed roundabout; 5 Corners
Editor:
I have yet to talk to anyone who is not on the Edmonds City Council or staff that wants the proposed roundabout at Five Corners.
It cannot be justified by a non-existent accident rate; it is environmentally unsound; the noise and pollution as a result of tearing up merchant parking lots will offset any environmental improvement anticipated by exhaust fumes for 20 years (not to mention the loss of business while things are being torn up.)
You seem not to understand that money from the federal government is still tax money that we the citizens pay.
Sung to the folk song of “Mama Don’t Allow”:
We don’t want no round about up here,
We don’t want no round about up here,
We don’t care what the voters want’
We’re going to build it any how,
Roundabouts are fashionable this year.
Sung to the tune of “there’ll Be Some Changes Made”:
There’ll be a change in the council, a change in the staff,
Representation is your primary task,
If you don’t listen when we tell you what we want,
There’ll be some changes made.
It appears the tail is wagging the dog.
Why not start a new trend that could be even more fashionable?
Return the money and state “the citizens do not want a roundabout” and therefore we are returning the granted funds.
Now that is a fashionable idea that might start a great trend in these times of economic hardship.

And there's city money being spent as well as the grant to make this unwanted (and some say unnecessary) "improvement" happen.
