Our city is worth more than thatThe longer we delay working on our infrastructure like... the more costly the fix
If the government of the United States ran as efficiently as the city of Edmonds is run, the government of the United States would not have a $17 trillion deficit.
We have been cutting back hiring and cutting services across the board to barely scrimp by.
Did you know that the city of Edmonds has less then half as many employees as comparable cities of the same size in our neighborhood?
Edmonds has until now been able to shelter citizens from much of the pain that will soon be apparent to everyone.
If you look at the budget or listen to our Mayor you should know and understand that we can’t keep it up.
The longer we delay working on our infrastructure like deteriorating city buildings, street overlays, our beloved parks etc. the more costly the fix.
As the Mayor has stated from the time he got elected we are going to have a 4-$500,000 shortfall a year beginning in the year 2015. We can't make that up in cuts, the cuts have been made and staff is working at capacity plus some.
The city is bringing on new development as fast as good projects get proposed.
That's great but it is not enough.
Most of our citizens love living here, what a fabulous place to raise children in our terrific schools and safe neighborhoods.
We have wonderful police and fire protection. Our emergency services are the best and the response time for any emergency is usually under five minutes. That's extra ordinary.
Of the choices the Mayor has given us, one is to just keep our heads stuck firmly in the sand and hope the problems will solve themselves.
Isn't our city worth more then that? And aren't our citizens better then that? Certainly we are.
Lets be part of the solution and not part of the problem.
It's time to bite the bullet. Have an Edmonds kind of Day.
