NO box buildings? Really? What next?
Once again, we must respond to the letters from well-meaning citizens of our much-loved town of Edmonds, when our individual tastes and freedom of architectural expression is attacked.
When will we understand that the very people building homes, commercial buildings and yes, even condos and apartments, are hardworking, property taxpayers and citizens contributing to the vibrancy of this town?
We moved back here two years ago to build our dream home. We were scrutinized by some of our neighbors, complained about to the city by others, and ostracized by many.
Why? Not because we did not pay our taxes or followed building codes (which, by the way are cumbersome and expensive).
We complied with it all and have nothing but high marks for the City of Edmonds and our local bank, Washington Federal, who assisted us in making this dream a reality.
We were singled out for the design. Some people don’t like it. We do. Other’s do. Some never will.
Oh well, life in Edmonds will go on – long after the longtime residents are gone.
It would behoove us all to accept the changes (even if you want desperately to keep things the same) and let everyone enjoy their dream.
Get to know your neighbors and maybe you will actually forget what style building or home they live in that you hate – and actually find a friend who occupies it.
