Musher Jan Steves speaks at Senior Center
Edmonds native Jan Steves, who enters the Iditarod every year, spoke at the Edmonds Senior Center recently.
Steves, the sister of travel guru Rick Steves, is a frequent motivational speaker. She also spoke Wednesday, Oct. 5, at a benefit for Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County.
Steves, who now lives in Alaska, entered her first Iditarod in 2012. She’s finished the race once, and last year was forced to drop out after falling and breaking some ribs.
It was a tough year for Steves – her 31-year-old son died from a heart attack and her home burned down.
She is now in training for the 2017 Iditarod, to be held in Alaska in March.
