Meadowdale beats Timberline, advances to 3A state tournament | Prep football
The Meadowdale football team beat Timberline on Saturday, Nov. 9 in a 28-21 match.
The Mavericks will be the No. 2 seed out of District 3 moving forward into next weekend's 3A state tournament.
Meadowdale's Malik Braxton scored the first touchdown of the game with 7:49 left in the first quarter. The Mavericks added to their lead less than two minutes later when Josiah Evans scored off an 11-yard run, after an interception by Meadowdale. The Mavericks led 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Blazers took control early in the second quarter, after intercepting a throw by Jeremiah Evans. Brennon Kaleiwahea scored the first Timberline touchdown of the afternoon after a 5-yard run with 5:49 left in the half.
Josiah Evans scored after a 66-yard touchdown pass from his brother with less than a minute to play in the first half, giving the Mavericks a 21-7 lead at halftime.
Neither team scored in the third quarter, and stayed the same through much of the fourth quarter until Meadowdale scored with 4:55 left to play to make it a 23-7 game.
Timberline scored with 3:28 in the fourth, followed by another touchdown with just 29 seconds on the clock.
With the win, the Mavericks will face Lakes, the No. 3 team out of District 2 in the first round of the 3A state playoffs. Meadowdale will play either Friday, Nov. 15 or Saturday, Nov. 16.
