Mary L. Rogers: 1936-2017
Mary L. Rogers, 78, passed peacefully on Sunday, March 12, surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Seattle in 1936 and moved to Edmonds in 1945. She met the love of her life, Hank Rogers, at Edmonds High School.
In 1959, the high school sweethearts were married and settled in Edmonds. In recent years, she lived part time at their home on Camano Island. Mary and Hank raised two daughters: Kathy and Michelle. As a homemaker, she was always the room mother, camp fire leader, sports supporter and welcomed all of her children’s friends into her home.
The focal point of her life was faith, family and long-lasting friendships. Simply sharing a cup of coffee with her friends brought her much joy. Travel adventures she loved included Mariners spring training in Arizona, the Oregon coast and camping at Alta Lake, as well as driving to visit friends and family in Denver, California, Oregon, Canada and Alaska.
Mary had four grandchildren – Haley and Hannah (Michelle) and Megan and Madison (Kathy). Mary was able to continue to enjoy supporting sports, music and academic endeavors through her granddaughters. She overcame many obstacles to always be present at as many events as she possibly could.
With Hank’s continuing support and care, Mary remained in her home until her passing. Mary is survived by her husband, Hank, children Michelle (Kevin) Lemm, Kathy (Steve) Cooley, granddaughters Haley Lemm, Hannah Lemm, Megan Cooley and Madison Cooley, and sister Barbara (Tom) Buchmeier, who lives in Monument, Colorado.
Her Celebration of Life will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lynnwood. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Make a Wish Foundation of Washington (206-623-5300) or Living Water through Trinity Lutheran Church (425-778-2159).
