Live music, comedy featured downtown
Red Petal Tunes has a new name - Edmonds Tunes. The event changed its name because it is growing larger and more popular.
"So many people love the idea that soon we'll need to establish a second venue,” event organizer Manya Vee said.
"Then people will have two choices of live music on that night," she added.
Currently, live music and standup comedy takes place at Red Petal Coffee House, 321 Main St. in downtown Edmonds.
Last Friday featured six musicians and nearly a full house.
Highlights included comedian "Happy Ham" Jeff Stilwell's parody of The Short Building Society of Edmonds. Stilwell does standup comedy between the musical acts.
Among the musicians performing that night, the sweet voice of Alyson Podesta was accompanied by her pal Ray Cameron on guitar.
Also, singer-songwriter Gary Davis had the audience both laughing and charmed by his quirky lyrics as well as his sweet ballads.
Edmonds Tunes occurs from 6-8 p.m. every Friday. There is no cover charge.
"Come when you can and leave when you want," Vee said. "It's really informal, and people love that."
