Letters to the Editor-Not all candidates are good
I found it very interesting that Steve Bernheim has applied for the vacant position on the Edmonds City Council.
After closely following council person Bernheim’s prepared remarks in the Haines Wharf Park fiasco, I can think of no one on the list of candidates who is less qualified than he.
By his own admission he did not track city expenditures on the project, nor could he understand the process because the city expenses were not listed in descending order, largest to smallest.
The amounts spent on the project did not register with him.
Maybe he should have asked for a report on expenditures for that specific project.
I asked the former finance director if such a report could be generated and was informed that it could readily be made available.
He also stated that the former mayor bullied the council and intimidated them into signing off on the overages, in some cases, without their knowledge that they were in fact approving these overages.
Our city is in dire financial straights because of this prior vacuum of leadership and accountability. This is just one incident.
How many others are there where accumulatively, huge sums of money were expended without proper oversight.
There are several names on the list of applicants with the experience to do the job that have the character and strength to stand up to the so called bullying and intimidation that former council person Bernheim has clearly demonstrated publicly that he lacks.
The citizens of Edmonds deserve nothing less.
