King’s beats Bellevue Christian at Arizona tournament | Girls prep basketball
The King’s girls basketball team traveled to Arizona over the holidays for the Cactus Jam tournament. The Knights beat Bellevue Christian on Saturday, Dec. 28 and lost to a team from British Columbia on Friday, Dec. 27.
On Saturday, against Bellevue Christian, the Knights won 48-22.
King’s led 14-3 at the end of the first quarter, and outscored Bellevue Christian 12-8 in the second to hold a 26-11 at halftime.
In the third quarter, King’s outscored the team from Bellevue 15-2, and Bellevue Christian scored nine to King’s seven in the final minutes.
Daylee Hanson scored 12 points during the win, Karly Hibbard scored 11, Savanna Hanson added nine points, Kendal Adams scored four, as did Anna Parker, Julia Berenson scored three points and Alysanne Van Dyke posted two points.
On Friday, Dec. 27, the Knights lost 36-35 to Holy Cross, a team from British Columbia.
Holy Cross led 10-6 at the end of the first, followed by a 10-4 point total in the second for a 20-10 Holy Cross lead.
Holy Cross outscored the Knights 10-8 in the third, and though King’s outscored the B.C. team 17-6 in the final minutes, it wasn’t enough to overtake the lead.
Savanna Hanson scored 11 points, Adams and Berenson each scored six, while Hibbard and Parker posted four. Daylee Hanson and Van Dyke each scored two points.
The Knights are 5-3 this season and will play Lynden in the final game of the Cactus Jam on Monday, Dec. 30 at noon.
