An open letter from the mayor

Jazz Connection just keeps getting better | Letter

May 22, 2014

Editor, The Beacon:

As we enter our "festival” season, I hope the community will closely follow and support the 2014 Edmonds Jazz Connection, sponsored by the Edmonds Daybreakers Rotary and scheduled for May 24th.

The Jazz Connection, begun in 2000, has been growing yearly and now draws talented junior high and high school students from all over the region.

I make a point to attend this event every year. And each year when I stop by to listen to the various groups, I am stunned at the maturity and quality of the musicianship of these young players.

We have quality music programs in our Edmonds schools and in the surrounding school districts, and my hat’s off to the Rotary for creating and sustaining this wonderful showcase event.

The other amazing aspect of the Edmonds Jazz Connection is that all that great talent draws people into Edmonds, and more people, more activity, more shopping and more dining creates a more robust community for all.

So let's plan to make the 2014 Jazz Connection the largest and most successful ever!

Mayor Dave Earling
