Honoring Vets: VFW asking for your help
Currently, Edmonds is without a major memorial to Veterans. VFW Edmonds Post #8870 is asking the community to lend a hand in establishing one.
Recently the City of Edmonds announced a park renaming opportunity. Edmonds Post #8870, Judge Advocate, Ron Clyborne, says “What better way to honor the men and women who have served our country than by renaming the mini park Veterans Memorial Park?"
According to Clyborne, renaming the park ‘Veterans Memorial Park’ would:
- Honor all our Veterans who are serving and who previously served our great nation in the military forces and to memorialize our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of liberty, freedom and the American way.
- Memorialize the memory of our veterans who sacrificed all for our great nation.
- Honor the commitment of our veterans who gave, and continue to give, so much so we can be free.
Edmonds residents are encouraged to stop by the VFW’s annual Poppy Program this Saturday to complete an entry form to rename the park and, in doing so, help establish a major memorial to veterans.
Continuing a longstanding annual tradition, VFW Post #8870 will be selling poppies to raise funds to help local veterans.
The sale will take place on Friday, May 24 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, May 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Locations are the Westgate QFC on 100th & Edmonds Way and Top Foods on 220th and Hwy 99. The sale will continue in the morning on Memorial Day, May 27 at the Edmonds Memorial Cemetery on 100th near QFC.
