Honoring fallen heroes
Debbie Dawson of the Edmonds Police Department plays “Taps” Wednesday morning in memory of the first responders who lost their lives 12 years ago at the World Trade Center. Dawson, who learned the skill from her father, is regularly called on to play at veterans’ funerals and other events. Also on Wednesday, Edmonds firefighters held a ceremony at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial Park at 6th Avenue and Sprague Street. The park will be the future home of a 1-ton steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center. A campaign is underway to raise $150,000 for a permanent memorial on the site.
