Health District to offer fewer teacher-taught classes in 2013

Food worker classes most popular online
Dec 28, 2012

In 2012 a record 24,000 Snohomish County residents earned a food worker card through online training – versus nearly 5,000 who earned their cards in a classroom.

The ease and convenience of an online training option has reduced the need for in-person classes.

Consequently, the Snohomish Health District has reduced its schedule of in-person food worker classes in English and Spanish effective Jan. 1, 2013.

The Health District will offer four classes a month in English and one in Spanish at the Snohomish Health District auditorium in the Rucker Building, 3020 Rucker Ave., Everett.

In-person classes will no longer be offered in Lynnwood:

·  English – First and third Thursday of each month at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.

·  Spanish – First Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m.

The Washington State Food Worker Course has been available online to Snohomish County residents since the spring of 2011. The training is available in English, Spanish, Korean, Russian, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, Cambodian and Closed Caption.

It takes about one hour to go through the online learning and take the test.

Food worker cards are good for three years and are valid anywhere in Washington state.

The cost of the training and test for a food worker card remains at $10.

The Health District accepts cash only for the in-person classes, and Visa or MasterCard only for online classes.
