Hazel M. Miller: 1921-2016
Hazel M. Miller was born Oct. 21, 1921, and peacefully passed on July 22, 2016. She was gentle, kind and smart, and will be missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by husband Raymond Miller and son Charles Miller. She is survived by son Edward Miller (Mark Gloss), daughter Linda Hedges (Rick Hedges), and her sister, Patricia Keeler.
She was also loved by four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Ray and Hazel came to live in Edmonds in 1952 to have room for their horses. They were active in the Shrine and Daughters of the Nile organizations.
They founded Miller’s Equipment & Rent-All in Edmonds in 1959. The business is still family run and includes their grandson, Paxton, as third generation.
Hazel was born in Great Falls, Montana, but grew up in the Bothell/Mill Creek area. She fondly remembered selling apples alongside Bothell-Everett Highway during the Depression to help with expenses.
She graduated from Bothell High School in 1938, and was valedictorian of her class. She was working as a dental assistant in Seattle when she met her future husband, Ray.
Hazel always had a smile on her face, whether she was at work doing the books, ironing at home, socializing with friends or playing with her grandchildren. She led Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and could always be counted on.
We appreciated her love, generosity and devotion to family.
