Just before 4 a.m. today, a patrol officer observed that a scooter in front of him was stolen and initiated a traffic stop in the 10800 block of Evergreen Way.

While being taken into custody, the driver admitted there was a grenade under the seat of the scooter.

Officers confirm the presence of a device that looked like a grenade. For safety, the area was secured while the Interagency Bomb Unit was dispatched, and removed the grenade.

The male, 26-year-old Aleksandr Lezhnyak of Everett, has been booked into the Snohomish County Jail for outstanding local warrants and will be referred to the Prosecutor’s Office for possession of a stolen vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded and will be returned to its owner.

Only one southbound lane of traffic was open during the incident, but all are now open.

Since the time of the incident, the grenade has been analyzed and found to be inert.
