Gala to benefit dance program for special needs kids

Sep 18, 2013

The Dorothy Jayne Studio in Everett is hosting a Fundraising Gala Sept. 21 to benefit its dance program for special needs kids.

“The dreams of children with special needs, and the need for not only family, but community, to help realize those dreams, is the driving force behind the Special Needs Kids Dance Program,” said Dr. Sanford Wright, an Everett neurosurgeon.

The dance program at the Dorothy Jayne Studio began when a special needs child in the Providence Children’s Center repeatedly told her mother that she had a dream of dancing.

Thanks to the help of dance instructor Alexey Gavrilov, the girl was able to dance at the 2012 Christmas Spectacular at the Everett Civic Auditorium,  to music composed and performed by violinist Artem Savchenko.

As a result of this success, Wright and his wife, Olga Foraponova, owner of the Dorothy Jayne Studio, founded the Dance Program for Special Needs Kids with funding from the Dorothy Jayne Foundation.

Providence Children's Center Program Director Christie Tipton and Alexey Gavrilov are co-founders of the program.

The fundraiser will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, at the Dorothy Jayne Studio, 2931 Bond St., in Everett.

It will feature Alexey Gavrilov, Christie Tipton, Olga Foraponova, Dr. Sanford Wright and other special guests, including firefighters, a program of dance and refreshments.

Admission is $100 individual or $190 for two, at the door.

For those who are unable to attend, donations may be mailed to Special Needs Kids Dance Program, care of The Dorothy Jayne Foundation, 2320 Rucker Ave., Everett, WA. 98201.
