Frances Jean O’Connor

Sep 26, 2013

Jean, dear wife, mother, grandmother and sister, passed away September 6, 2013, surrounded by her loving family. Jean was born in Denver, Colorado on May 23, 1927 to Francis Edward Mix and Noma Loraine Mix. She was the eldest of two children.

Jean attended Roosevelt High School in Seattle and enjoyed attending her class reunions every ten years. During World War II, Jean worked for Boeing and helped build military B-17 bomber airplanes. She graduated from Seattle College Providence School of Nursing in 1948 and served as a pediatric nurse and then went into general nursing. Later in life she worked at Blue Cross, where she became an accomplished public speaker.

Jean married Kenneth Ray O'Connor on March 6, 1948 and three children were born of the marriage. Jean and Ken raised their family in Seattle, Yakima, Wenatchee and moved to Edmonds in 1968 where she lived until her death.

Jean traveled widely, loved to read, and never saw a crossword or jigsaw puzzle she couldn't complete in short order. Her mind was sharp as a tack. She was an avid Seattle Sounders fan rarely missing a televised game, and enjoyed regular workouts with her friends at Harbor Square Athletic Club.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son, Timothy, and son-in-law, Ralf McAllister.

She is survived by son, Steven (Sandy); daughter, Nancy; grandchildren, Evan, Taylor, Monica, Ryan and Laurel; sister, Mary Lou (Jack); nieces and nephew; as well as dear friend, Wyn Miller. Jean ("Grandma O") was devoted to her grandchildren and they loved her deeply.

She was a shining example of the best qualities you would hope to find in another person, kind, giving, loving, and honest. Her steadfast love and support, wonderful sense of humor, optimism, and beautiful smile will be missed beyond measure. Remembrances may be made to Hospice of Snohomish County, 2731 Wetmore Avenue, Everett, WA 98201. An Open House in remembrance of Jean will be held Sunday, September 29, 2013, 12 - 3 p.m. at the home of Steve and Sandy O'Connor, 2526 Viewcrest Ave., Everett. Friends and family are welcome.
