Parul Sharma, D.O., has recently received board certification by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Rheumatology.

A recent addition to the highly trained, specialized team of orthopedic doctors at Premier Orthopedic Group, Dr. Sharma began practicing at Premier Orthopedic Group in September 2012, providing specialized rheumatology care for residents of the area.

To become board-certified in the subspecialty of rheumatology, doctors must have previously received certification in Internal Medicine through the American Board of Internal Medicine and passed the rheumatology certification examination.

Additionally, doctors must complete specialized fellowship training in rheumatology and demonstrate clinical competence, procedural skills, and moral and ethical behavior in a clinical setting.

As a board-certified rheumatologist, Dr. Sharma’s expertise includes nonsurgical treatment of clinical problems involving joints, soft tissues, autoimmune diseases, vasculitis and connective tissue disorders.

“Through my work in rheumatology, I’m able to help people with rare autoimmune diseases and musculoskeletal disorders,” Dr. Sharma says. “I’m proud to have achieved this level of certification and distinction and am eager to share my expertise with patients in the Edmonds area.”

A native of Upstate New York, Dr. Sharma graduated from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in Kansas City, Mo., in 2006.

He recently completed advanced training as a fellow in rheumatology at the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash.

Dr. Sharma also received specialized training during his internal medicine residency at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, Mo.

Additionally, Dr. Sharma is an active member of the American College of Rheumatology.
