Edmonds-Woodway loses in first round of state tournament | Girls prep soccer

Less than a week after winning the 4A Wesco district title, the Edmonds-Woodway girls soccer season ended on Tuesday night in the first round of the state tournament.

The Warriors, facing off against Olympia, lost 2-0.

Last Thursday, Edmonds-Woodway earned the district title after beating league rival Jackson 3-0.

The two teams scored just two goals against each other during the regular season, with both meetings ending with a draw.

Against Jackson, Hannah Thuesen scored in the 23rd minute of the game, putting the Warriors up 1-0. She added another goal, as did teammate Melissa Long in the second half. Goalie Kiera Towell earned the shutout.

In the first round of the tournament, the Warriors beat Kamiak 3-1.

Rylee Peterson scored two goals during the game for the Warriors, while teammate Thuesen added the team’s other goal. Kamiak’s Emele Chaddock scored the Knights only goal of the game.

The Warriors ended the season with a 14-3-2 record.
