Edmonds-Woodway beats Jackson, stays undefeated | Prep football
It was a tight back and forth game, but the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors kept it's undefeated record with a 35-28 win over league rival Jackson.
The Warriors were the first to strike, after a scoreless first quarter, Junior Opoku-Mensah scored the first touchdown of the night off a 14-yard pass from quarterback Davis Giles. But just as quickly as Edmonds-Woodway was on top, the Timberwolves, which also came into Friday's game with a 3-0 record, scored off a kickoff return to make it a 7-7 game.
Jackson took the lead minutes later when White scored his second points of the night off a 1-yard run. Not to be outdone before the first half ended, the Warriors tied things up again, this time thanks to a 7-yard run by Mac McLachlan. The team ended the first half tied 14-14.
In the third quarter, Jackson's Robinson caught a 29-yard pass to momentarily lift the Timberwolves, but the kick failed and Warrior Scott Myricks evened things out after he caught a 14-yard pass from Giles. Edmonds-Woodway took the one point 21-20 lead.
Jackson, fighting to retake the lead, sent Robinson to the touchdown on a 4-yard run score in the fourth quarter, followed by a two-point attempt from Robinson, but it would be the only points the Timberwolves would score in the final minutes.
Edmonds-Woodway's McLachlan scored twice in the waning moments of the game, the first off a 5-yard run and the second a 7-yard run to seal the win for the Warriors.
The Warriors will take on Cascade, the only other undefeated team left in the league, on Friday, Oct. 4 in a 5 p.m. game at Edmonds-Stadium. Cascade beat Mariner 51-34 on Sept. 27.
