Edmonds Sister City Commission set to ‘wow’ at Summer Market
The Edmonds Sister City Commissioners have been busy prepping and planning for activities to make the 25th Anniversary Delegation visit from Hekinan in October a memorable one.
On Saturday, Aug. 17, the commissioners will host a booth at the Edmonds Summer Market to help spread the excitement.
Stop by the booth to try your hand at some origami, have your photo taken in the new photo board, or buy a ticket to enter a raffle for a chance to win a basket of beautiful Japanese gifts.
This year, the city of Edmonds will host 37 Japanese delegates from our Sister City, Hekinan. The delegates arrive in late October for a week of authentic Edmonds experiences.
This exchange marks the 25th year of the relationship between the two cities. In April of 2013, a group of Edmonds residents, including Mayor Earling and Chamber of Commerce President Ron Clyborne, visited Hekinan.
The Sister City Commissioners have participated in the Edmonds Summer Market for several seasons. The commission uses this opportunity to provide the public with information about its activities, delegation opportunities, and mission.
Stop by the table to pick up a brochure detailing how you can become involved.
Flyers at the Summer Market will inform citizens of details of public events during the Hekinan visit. People can support Edmonds in welcoming our visitors by making donations, becoming members, and buying raffle tickets at the Summer Market on Aug. 17.
The new photo board was the brainchild of Marlene Friend and Jill Van Berkom. As the Commissioners manned the booth last year they longed for a way to increase public interaction.
“It seemed like a fun way to get people at the market to stop and chat,” says Jill Van Berkom. “Marlene and I worked together to paint the board earlier this summer.
“We are both excited to show it off at the August 17th Edmonds Summer Market.”
