The Sister City Commission is seeking a volunteer to fill a recent opening on the Commission, which consists of 12 non-paid volunteers serving three-year terms.
This position will run until Dec. 31, 2014, and is extendable. Sister City Commissioners attend one monthly meeting on the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m., and participate in year-round committee work, hold at least one executive position within the Commission during their three-year term, and participate in activities involving visitors from their Sister City Hekinan, Japan, throughout the year.
The mission of the Sister City Commission is to promote international communication and understanding through exchanges of people, ideas, and culture.
Each of the Sister City Commissioners has a special connection to Japan and sees the value of encouraging adult and student exchanges between Edmonds and Hekinan.
Edmonds will welcome the 25th Anniversary Hekinan Mayor's Delegation in October, continuing the deep friendship between the two cities.
Interest in Japan and the Sister City mission and willingness to serve the citizens of Edmonds is desirable.
Applicants participate in an interview process and are appointed by the Mayor with confirmation of the City Council.
A Commissioner is selected, in part, based upon skills that apply to the Commission's mission, functions, and current and ongoing projects.
