Nearly 500 runners and walkers of all ages and skill levels from as far away as Pennsylvania turned out for the 7th annual 4th of July 5K Fun Run/Walk presented by the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce.

The ages of participants ranged from 0 (James Johnson was likely helped along by his parent driven stroller) to 81 years young.

The first to complete the course were Carter Osborne (18) and Miler Haller (16), who crossed the finish line just 16 minutes and 20 seconds after starting!

According to long time race director and Edmonds City Councilman, Frank Yamamoto, the 4th of July 5K Fun Run/Walk is a growing success.

“Since I first put this race on seven years ago, it has steadily grown,” Yamamoto said.  “Particularly in the past two years, there have been great improvements in numbers and the quality of the event.

“This year the number participating nearly reached 500!

“There are many factors contributing to the growth of this race. Those include the popularity of the scenic route, increased promotion of the event, work of Chamber staff Ailsa Kellam and Chris Nelson, and our great team of volunteers.

“Edmonds City Police ensured the event was safe so our many participants could come out and have a fun time.”

Yamamoto also expressed appreciation for co-sponsors Swedish/Edmonds and Sound Woman’s Care for making the event possible.

Race winners and race times for all fun run participants have been posted to www.facebook.com/EdmondsChamber and will soon be available on the Edmonds Chamber Website at www.edmondswa.com.
