Darryl Belanich, 85, of Edmonds, WA passed into the loving arms of his lord and savior Jesus on Jan. 8, 2014 from complications of pneumonia and prostate cancer. Darryl was born Aug. 9, 1928 in Seattle to Joseph and Mary Belanich. He grew up on Queen Anne Hill, attended  St. Anne’s school &  O’dea H.S. He was an accomplished baseball player-made Seattle All City as 3rd baseman, was a boy scout and proud den leader, spent 2 yrs. in Merchant Marine. His father was Croatian born, mother, Croatian from Seattle. He enjoyed all Croatian activities. He fished his father’s purse seiner in S.E. Alaska & San Juan Islands. When Darryl was 24 he met Carolyn Owen. They quickly fell deeply in love, knowing they were meant for each other, marrying in Seattle, Oct. 9, 1954. He worked as a top finish carpenter receiving his gold card for 50 years union membership. His exemplary work can be seen throughout Seattle. He and Carolyn loved polka dancing, clearing the floor at their 50th Anniversary. He loved swimming & swam the length of Lake Washington at 56. He and Carolyn were avid swimmers, bicyclers & hikers. Darryl loved long walks. They loved their many trips to Southern Calif., Seaside, Chelan & family vacations in Penticton. He taught his children, grandchildren, nieces & godson Carsten how to swim. Darryl leaves his wife Carolyn, 5 children, Deborah Hawley (David) Barbara Kostelyk, (Jordan) David, Patricia, John, 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren, brothers Joe and Roger (Susan) nieces, nephews, cousins & sister-in-law Marge. He was pre deceased by Sister Gloria Roth. Darryl is remembered by those who knew him as being the nicest and most nonjudgmental Christian man they have ever known. His deep love of the Father and Jesus is what sustained him. Carolyn will never forget the deep, deep love they shared for 59 years that transcended the tough times. Darryl’s patience and understanding will never be forgotten by his wife of 59 years. She will always know that he was a man who loved her with all his heart. “He was a good man” Public visitation at his final resting place will be from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at Acacia on Jan. 18.
