Council should choose a truly qualified candidate
It appears that once again Steve Bernheim has added his name to the list of those who wish to fill the current vacancy on the Edmonds City Council.
His last stint on the council was nothing short of a disaster. Does anyone in the city remember the Haines Wharf Park project?
Mr. Bernheim did not have the fiscal sophistication to track any of the expenditures and claimed he was intimidated and bullied by the then mayor.
Personally, I found his behavior to be embarrassing and certainly not what I would expect from someone who has the responsibility and requires the courage to do what is right for the city.
The council has the opportunity to choose from a list of 14 other candidates that have offered up their services to the city.
From my perspective, two stand head and shoulders above the rest. Harry Gatjens and Ron Wambolt are both exceedingly qualified for the position, have a strong knowledge of the issues facing the city, shown the dedication required, and have the strength of character to handle the pressures placed on them by the job.
It is my hope that the sitting council considers what is best for the city and fills the vacancy with one of the two truly qualified candidates.
