Beacon should be ashamed of headline | Letter

Apr 09, 2017

I am not sure what kind of journalism you are trying to give us – if you are trying to use inflammatory headlines to boost sales or maybe you just don't like teenagers (“Teen killed by falling tree not on main trail,” March 16).

This is the second time in less than nine months that you have headlined an article with words that seem to indicate a child was doing something untoward that caused their death.

You should be ashamed of yourself. Seriously. Have you no comprehension what the family of this precious girl must be going through? Or how heartbroken the community of friends and parents are about this tragic accident?

If the tree had fallen on the main path, would you blame her for not seeing the tree? Or maybe you think she had THC in her system, and that explained it all.

I think your editor should resign, apologize to the families and never write a single word again.
