ArtsNow/uLearn is going to be offering a FREE jazz concert, as part of their participation in ArtWalk on Feb. 21.
From 6 to 7 p.m., they are featuring a small combo from the Edmonds Community College music program. From 7 to 8 p.m., the Edmonds Community College Jazz band, led by David Marriot, will be playing.

Teed Off Seniors golf: information and season kick-off
The Lynnwood Senior Center sponsor a fun, social, golfing group on alternate Thursdays throughout the spring, summer, and early fall at the Nile Golf Course.
Join the “Teed Off Seniors” group for fun, great play and make new friends.
Play is best ball in scheduled foursomes; rain or shine unless thunderstorms are imminent.
Green fees are collected at the course upon arrival.
You may rent pull carts, clubs, and driving carts at the course for additional cost.
Meet at the golf course 30 minutes before tee time for all games and field days.
The Teed Off Seniors information and season kick-off meeting is scheduled for 1 to 2 p.m., on Friday, Feb 22 at the Lynnwood Senior Center.

Northwest geology to be topic
Donn Charnley, Emeritus Professor at Shoreline Ccmmunity College, will be discussing the ecological evaluation of the local area on Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Alderwood Manor Youth Club, 19719 24th Ave. W, Lynnwood.
Offering a geological evaluation of the Pacific Northwest at the Alderwood Manor Heritage Assn. meeting, he’ll answer questions such as “Why are there so many rocks?”
Coffee and Social Hour start at 10 a.m., with the program beginning at 11. Potluck luncheon follows the program at noon.

Learn the signs of Alzheimer’s
A class about Alzheimer’s disease, “Know the 10 Signs: Early Detection Matters” will be held from 10 to 11:30 on Friday, March 1, at the Edmonds Senior Center, 220 Railroad Ave., Edmonds.
What is the difference between typical age-related memory changes and Alzheimer’s disease? How do I know if I need to be concerned about myself or a loved one? What steps should I take if I think there might be a problem?
This free class will discuss the ten Warning Signs of Alzheimer’s, why early detection is important, and how Alzheimer’s is diagnosed.

Kids classes that rock
Edmonds Parks and Recreation is offering two classes in March for kids 6-12 who love rocks and geology.
“Rockhound Discovery” is a one-hour class, taught by Amy Bergin, on Saturday, March 2, 10-11 a.m. Cost is $12 Edmonds residents/$14 non-residents.
“Puget Sound Rocks” is a 5-hour mini-camp on Friday, March 8, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. This is a non-school day for Edmonds School District.
Cost is $32 Edmonds residents, $37 non-residents.

The Basics: Memory Loss, Dementia & Alzheimer's disease is the topic of this class, held Friday, March 15, from 9:30-11:30 a.m., at the Edmonds Senior Center, 220 Railroad Ave., Edmonds.
Is dementia a normal part of aging? What is the difference between Alzheimer’s disease and dementia?
This free class will cover the basics of Alzheimer's disease and Dementia including: risk factors, diagnosis, stages of Alzheimer’s, treatments, and resources.

Innis Arden to holds 51st annual rummage sale
The Innis Arden Community in Shoreline is about to celebrate it’s 51st annual Rummage Sale, March 16 and 17.
The sale is often described as a bargain hunter’s delight. Throughout the year, Innis Arden residents contribute an amazing variety of items. The sale has everything from A to Z. There’s fun for all.
At the close of the sale, all unsold items are donated to various local charities. The community then makes a cash donation of ten percent of its sales to a single, local charity.
The proceeds of the sale, in part, contribute to maintenance of the Innis Arden clubhouse and grounds, which are utilized for local sports events, functions of various non-profit organizations, and more.
The Rummage Sale will be held at Innis Arden Clubhouse, 1430 N.W.188th St. Shoreline.

Youth Volleyball League taking registrations
The United States Youth Volleyball League is bringing a fun-filled season of volleyball to Edmonds this summer. The 8-week league will run from June 26-Aug. 24 at City Park on Wednesdays 6-7 p.m., and Saturdays 9-10 a.m.
All children between the ages of 7 and 15 are invited to enjoy instructional volleyball practices and games that focus on participation, sportsmanship, and fun.
The USYVL’s mission is to provide every child between the ages of 7 and 15 a chance to learn and play volleyball in a fun, safe, supervised environment.
A large portion of the USYVL is fueled by volunteers. Volunteering is a great opportunity to work with the youth in promoting their confidence and self-esteem while sharing the sport of volleyball.

SKANDIA MIDSOMMARFEST 2013

Yoga for older adults
The Edmonds Senior Center at 220 Railroad Ave. is starting a new class called "Chair or Mat Free Yoga" on Thursday mornings from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m.
It is designed with the less flexible in mind and those in need of healing from cancer, PTSD or other illness/injury that has kept one from being more mobile.
Improved posture, better balance and joint function is the goal of the class and it is never too late to start.

Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County is seeking new or very gently used household goods for victims of domestic abuse and their children.

Alzheimer's Association Caregiver Support Group
The group meets at Maplewood Presbyterian Church, 19523 84th Ave. W, Edmonds, from 7-9 p.m. on the third Monday of every month.
Caring for someone with memory loss? Alzheimer's Association caregiver support groups provide a place for caregivers to learn and gain support from others caring for a person with memory loss.
Support groups also serve as an opportunity for participants to receive information on care management, available services, and current research and treatment options.
This is a free support group for unpaid care partners, family members and friends of individuals with memory loss.

The Greater Edmonds Chamber of Commerce has positions open for volunteers at the Log Cabin Visitor's Bureau in beautiful downtown Edmonds.

YWCA needs food donations
The YWCA Pathways for Women shelter in Lynnwood is experiencing a severe shortage of food in their food shed.
They are in great need of non-perishable food items for families who are moving into the shelter.
Some of the food items needed are: tomato sauce, tomato paste, canned vegetables, canned fruit, canned soup, cake mixes and frosting, top ramen noodles, spaghetti, catsup, and mayonnaise. Pathways for Women programs provide housing and services to homeless single women with children.

Thrift store extends hours
The quaint and fun retail Thrift Store located at the north side of the Edmonds Senior Center (ESC) has announced new winter hours. The new hours will be Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. ESC is located at 220 Railroad Ave.
The retail store has many items available for sale such as antiques, jewelry, clothes, CD, DVD, soft cover books, linens, toys, kitchen items, and small furniture. All are surrounded in a warm and friendly environment.

YWCA seeks clothing bags, products
The Working Women's Wardrobe program is in need of clothing bags and personal care products. More than 1,200 women yearly access the clothing program to receive clothing that can be used either for the interview or for the workplace.
The clothing selected is put into department store paper bags that the participants can take home with them. Personal care products such hair care products, soaps, body lotions, deodorant, toothpaste and brushes are also in short supply.

"Friends of the Sister City" seek volunteers
Hekinan, Japan has been a Sister City with Edmonds for 24 years. The Edmonds Sister City Commission plans various activities each year to bridge these two cultures and build goodwill.
To expand the work of the Commission, a new group of volunteers called "Friends of the Sister City" is now forming.
The group will assist the Commission when Hekinan students visit Edmonds every summer in August, and when adult delegations periodically visit Edmonds in October.
Volunteers can determine the amount of time they have available to help. They will work as a group to prepare for the Hekinan delegation visits. Some volunteers will help during the time the visitors are here.

Mentoring Children of Promise is a community based mentoring program for children with a parent involved in the criminal justice system.
They are looking for adult volunteers, 21 and over, who want to share activities with a youth for eight hours a month. Mentors meet regularly with the child and offer friendship, support and guidance.
Mentors are required to make a minimum of a two-year commitment. They take every precaution to screen carefully by requiring an application, mentor training and an in home interview.
They match mentors to children who live in a close proximity, have similar interests and are a good fit in terms of personality. At MCP, their greatest hope is to create matches that last a lifetime.

Opportunities for both paid instructors and volunteers include: instructors for watercolor classes, a licensed massage therapist for seated chair massage, an instructor for a self-publishing writers group, and computer instructors.
