After school homework club has kids running
The kids literally run from the school bus to the YWCA Family Village of Lynnwood complex (formally known as Somerset Apartments) to start their homework.
Each Tuesday from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Michelle Kelly, Yara Tethys, Courtney Fasano, and Maddox Pratt, mental health counseling interns from the YWCA Counseling Center of the YWCA gather the group of children together and sit down for the YWCA “After School Super Fun Homework Club.”
The club is designed to assist the young children with their homework, practice social skills, build community, and provide a safe, judgment-free atmosphere for learning, exploring and playing.
Yara Tethys, spokesperson for the group is eager to find another volunteer skilled in tutoring in mathematics.
The club is also in need of financial donations for healthy snacks and drinks or for a donation of sugar free or low sugar snacks such as the Gold Fish crackers, pretzels, Ritz crackers, fruit leather, 100 percent juice drinks, etc.
Donations of art supplies, coloring books for elementary age kids, word search books, and Lego for building airplanes, boats, etc. are greatly appreciated.
Another item of great need is a children’s dictionary.
