5th annual benefit concert set for ‘Neighbors In Need’
Linda and David Cornell of Edmonds are joined with family and friends to present a multi-faceted concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24, in the live acoustic environment of Trinity Lutheran Church, Lynnwood.
Featured will be David Cornell’s exquisite piano rendition of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Two Waltzes in C, as well as the Hungarian Rhapsody of Franz Liszt.
Linda Cornell will share a medley of Gershwin love songs and David Cornell and his daughter, Diane Figaro, will perform the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini by Rachmaninoff.
Flute duets will be performed by Mary Minsk and Pam Greene, and the Figaro family will perform a variety of numbers.
A retired physics and astronomy professor from Principia College in Illinois, David Cornell was a church pianist for more than 40 years and participated in the Van Cliburn competition for amateurs.
He and Linda Cornell currently sing in the Sno-King Community Chorale and have been active recitalists.
Their daughter, Diane Cornell Figaro, teaches privately in the Edmonds/Lynnwood area and is a professional accompanist for a number of choirs in the area, also serving at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bellevue.
She will be joined by her husband, Rodney, and daughter, Sarah (David and Linda’s granddaughter), who is in the youth choir at Sacred Heart.
The concert is free and open to the public; donations will be accepted to benefit the “Neighbors in Need,” a ministry to the wider community, housed at Trinity Lutheran. More information can be found at www.trinitylutheranchurch.com/engage/local-engagement/neighbors-in-need
